What is the meta-universe?
This is like asking "what is a quadratic element?" no one has a "standard answer" yet.
But most people think of the metasverse as an upgraded online game, with a headset or wearable device added.
Is it really so? What do Internet bosses think?
Facebook sees the metasverse as a hyper-immersive social platform that incorporates virtual reality.
Tencent's "meta-universe", a virtual digital world independent of reality, allows users to open new identities and live freely, hence the name "Quanzhen Internet";
Alibaba's "meta-universe" allows merchants to build 3D shops by themselves, so that customers can personally experience the feeling of "cloud shopping"...
You might be thinking, does this still sound like an online game?
In fact, "meta-universe" and the essence of network games, very different.
While there is no standard definition of the meta-universe, there are three agreed upon features:
"Parallel worlds" -- forever
Facebook has shown examples of "metasurface meetings", where you can not only express your thoughts, but also feel the faces and actions of your colleagues. There is a strong sense of presence, as if you are there, and they are all around you.
The meta-universe is a "reinvention" of the real world, and the virtual world, like the real world, will always exist, so there will not be "a game company goes out of business, the game is gone".
"Separate identity" -- separate account system
In the real world, you may need documents and information to prove that you are you. In a virtual world, "behavior is identity" -- the apps you log into, the data you store, the records you leave -- all become your account identity.
"You" is independent of any organization and independent existence, after all, no one wants to experience the risk of "unplugging".
"Interlocking interests" -- connected to reality
The metasemes require human participation, and therefore incentives, such as electronic payments. Whether with digital currency or other tokens, virtual worlds can only truly break through the limits of gaming and social interaction to cover all aspects of life if their interests are interlinked with the real world. Otherwise, they will remain "online games."
Therefore, putting aside the concept of nihilism, these three points are the underlying logic and essence of the meta-universe, and network games do not have the characteristics.
They say the metasverse is the next Internet, don't you think?
